The Mundane Interzone Issue

Posted by goatchurch at 6:54 PM
It's time to revive this blog from the doldrums. A plan has suddenly been set in motion.

Originally we were going to sponsor a MundaneSF anthology. Then I thought of an "easier" option: Why not ask to be a guest editor for one issue of an SF magazine? We appear to have talked Interzone into it.

As you can see, the call for submissions is already up on their page. I had written this story submission webpage system a year ago, which still seemed to be working. While attempting to bring it up to date I was horrified to find that that there were already six(!) stories posted on it in the past week.

Well, at least it means the interface works. Unfortunately, the first story I picked out didn't look much like Science Fiction to me. Hoo Boy.

The closing date is 31st October 2007. The contact email is: mundanesf@gmail.com Further details to follow.

Are we talking literally mundane, or are we allowed to take (very slow) steps off Terra Firma?

Currently, our thought is that interstellar travel is improbable but that the solar system wide open.

Ahmed,

Androids within limitations. The group's current thinking is that true AI improbable. We'd have to see your treatment to decide if what you've done sounds probable. You'll have to examine the trope in some depth.

Payment?
Turnaround time?
Post apocalyptic stories acceptable?
If so, must the apocalypse itself be mundane (e.g. nukes or global warming, as opposed to takeover by zombies or Cthulhu?

kp,

I'm not paying. I believe it is the same rate that IZ normally pays. Turnaround is as soon as we get to it.

If it isn't thoroughly Mundane (probable futures), then a background of zombies seems an improbable match for the issue.
