Farmer: Oil Barons of the Future

Jeff Passmore, executive vice president of Iogen Corporation of Canada, said on Living on Earth:
"This is a flexible fuel vehicle, and those vehicles can run on anything from 100 percent gasoline, to only 15 percent gasoline, 85 percent ethanol, or any blend in between. The car doesn't care."

"[C]onventional ethanol will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 or 40 percent; cellulose ethanol, or advanced biofuels, reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 80 to 100 percent. Because of the existence of this lignin..., you don't have to import power from the grid in order to run your ethanol plant, which you do have to do with conventional ethanol."

Awhile back, I pointed to an article that discussed bio-fuels and their impossibility. Jeff Passmore is talking about reducing the parts of crops we don't eat. Two for one bonus for farmers.
